Caritas Sri Lanka working Group Meeting

The annual Caritas Sri Lanka working group meeting for this year was held in 2011 October from 12 to 14 at the auditorium of Caritas Sri Lanka - SEDEC.

The meeting was presided by Rt. Rev.  Dr. Harold Anthony Perera, Chairman, Catholic National Commission for Justice, Peace and Human Development.

Messages of felicitation were delivered at the inaugural ceremony by His Excellency Most Rev. Dr. Joseph Spiteri, Apostolic Nuncio; Her Excellency Patricia A. Butenis, American ambassador; Her Excellency Hilde Haraldstad, Norwegian Ambassador; His Excellency Bruce Levy, Canadian High Commissioner; His Excellency Geoff Q. U. Doidge, South African High Commissioner; Her Excellency Kathy Klugman, Australian High Commissioner and His Excellency Fabrizio Pio Arpea, Italian Ambassador.

13 international partners of the Caritas Family, His Lordships the Bishops, Rev. Father Directors of the  13 Diocesan Caritas Centres, representatives of the Diocesan centres, Rev. Fr. George Sigamoney, Director, Caritas Sri Lanka-SEDEC and its staff participated at this 3 days meeting.

Rev. Fr. Cryton Outschoorn, Director, Caritas EHED, Batticaloa, Mr. S. O. Jeyanandan, Projects Coordinator and Ms. R. K. Mary represented Caritas EHED, at the meeting.

The salient feature at the workshop was the market stalls where the 13 Diocesan Centres set up stalls on different themes. Caritas EHED set up its stall on “Peace and reconciliation” which displayed materials of a peace school, peace production centre and model of a peace village. The visitors to the stall were very much interested on the concept and listened intently to its explanation given by Caritas EHED representatives.
