An awareness programme on ‘Peace Education’ was conducted for 23 youth comprising of 06 Muslims and 17 Tamils at the Rural Development Society Hall in Pandiruppu, Kalmunai on 21.07.2011.
Mr.T.Manokaren. Project Officer welcomed the participants and said that the brotherhood affection and ‘Peace’ which existed within the Tamils, Muslims and Sinhala communities before the three decades of civil war in the North-East of Sri Lanka was destroyed during the said period in making enemity within these communities. Hence, it was the responsibility of the youth to re establish the lost ‘Peace’ within communities by taking forward the ‘Peace building Process’ in helping the communities to live in ’Peace and Harmony’.
Mr.A. Jeyaraj, Head of Animation attached to Caritas EHED, Kalmunai received Mr.K.Lavanathan, Divisional Secretary for Kalmunai Tamil Division and introduced him to the gathering. Mr.K.Lavanathan while addressing the youth said that it was the ripe time for the youth from different communities to join hands to spread the message on the importance of ‘Peace’ among different communities and to build a peaceful country in order for them to live in ‘Peace’, ‘Harmony’ and ‘Prosperity’.
