Empowerment through Livelihood Assistance [R & R]

8o beneficiaries from the villages Manipuram and Pallachenai  in Ayithiamalai North GS Division in the Manmunai West DS Division, Batticaloa District  were granted  assistance   worth Rs.2,543,500/- to improve their livelihood activities at function held at  the Ayithiamalai Multi purpose Hall.  Two of the main sectors  selected by the beneficiaries  are  Cattle rearing,  and Vegetable gardening .  The project was financed by CAFOD UK.

Rev.Fr.Cryton Outschoorn, Director, Caritas EHED was present at the function along with  other Oficals of Caritas EHED  Mr.S.O.Jeyananthan, Projects Coordinator and Mr.S.Pathmanathan , Field Officer, Relief and Rehabilitation unit,   and President of the  Rural Development Society.

Rev.Fr.Outschoorn in his address to the beneficiaries during the function  said  he was confident  that the  income  from the  Livelihood  activities from this  assistance  they had just received would  augment the family income  of the beneficiaries   enabling the families to enhance  opportunities for betterment especially  the   education of their children.

In  addition to this livelihood project, CAFOD UK has provided  financial assistance  to construct  45 full houses  and repair  11 damaged houses  of the war affected resettled families  together with  45  rain water harvesting tanks.
