“We are very happy and contented that 90 families which were affected by the Tsunami of 2004 are now living in safe new houses bringing up their children in a healthy surrounding . Permanent basic facilities contribute the major share for development”
This was said by the Country Director for Sri Lanka Lutheran World Relief(LWR) addressing the 90 beneficiaries whose houses destroyed by the Tsunami and reconstructed by Caritas EHED, with the funding from the LWR were officially handed over at a ceremonial function held on 29.11.2011 at Kaluthavalai-1 in the Manmunai South Eruvil Pattu DS Division, Batticaloa District.
The function held at the Kaluthavalia public Library premises was chaired by Rev,Fr.Cryton Outschoorn, Director, Caritas EHED and attended by Mr.Michele Cecere, Country Director ,LWR, Mr.Sutharshan Croos, Finance and Administration Manager, LWR, Mr.R.Nedunchelian, Director, Planning, District Secretariat, other Government Officials and Religious dignitaries.
A visibility Board indicating the details of the Permanent housing project erected on the Batticaloa- Kalmunai Trunk Road at the entrance to the Kallady Road ,Kaluthavalai-1 village leading to the houses was unveiled by the LWR Country Director. The ceremonial entry into 5 new houses were performed by the dignitaries present followed by a meeting held at the Public Library premises where all the beneficiaries were handed over Souvenirs and certificates of ownership to the houses by the dignitaries present.
