The annual ‘Oli Vizha’ of Caritas EHED, Batticaloa-Kalmunai under its ‘Social Justice and Sustainable Activities’ was held on 21.12.2-011 at Charles Hall with the participation of Community Members of the different faiths and with the presence of religious dignitaries belonging to Christian, Hindu and Islamic religion between 2.00 P.M. and 4.30 P.M.
The main purpose of conducting this valuable programme during the time of Christmas was to bring members of ‘Self Help Groups’ of Caritas EHED who belong to different communities together in promoting and building mutual understanding among them and promoting Sustainable Peace in this country and thus enabling different communities to live in Peace and Harmony. Elders, Youth, Children, participating artists including staff members attached to Caritas EHED numbering more than two hundred made this event very colourful.
The Chief Guest at this programme was Rt.Rev.Dr.Kingsley Joseph Swampillai, His Lordship the Bishop of Trincomalee-Batticaloa Diocese. The otherinvited Guests were Siva Sri Sivapalan Iyer of the Muthumariamman Temple, Kallady Veloor, Batticaloa and Kavimani Moulavi M.H.M.Buhary (Falahee) of Kattankudy.
His Lordship the Bishop in his address said as members from the three communities belonging to different religions we all should understand that we all belong to the one and only human world family and as such we should live as brothers and sisters of one family in order to live in peace and harmony. Sri Sivapalan Iyer and Kavimani Moulavi Buhary in their address also insisted the members belonging to the different communities must live as one community to promote permanent peace in this country.
Members from different Parishes took part in this programme by singing carols and with performance of dances and other cultural displays which were highly appreciated by the audience.
His Lordship the Bishop and other two Guests were presented with Mementos by Rev.Fr.Cryton Outschoorn, Director of Caritas EHED in appreciation of their services rendered to mankind.
